Just Like the Old Movies A principle of design I used is contrast. The way the sharp angles of the shadows go against the softer features of the subjects face creates a dramatic look. An element of art I used is space. The lack of space left over in the photo not only brings the subject more attention but because of the close angle brings more detail to the subject herself.
