Rolling the Dice

Shape and Movement
Shape and Movement

Photographers use movement to express and capture emotion in the photos they take. I used movement alongside a darkened environment in this photo to capture a melancholic feeling.

Texture and Contrast
Texture and Contrast

Photographers use contrast to add depth, drama and focal points to their picture. I used a contrast in textures from the water, log and moss to create more depth. The change from water to the tough texture of bark to the soft and scratchy texture of moss creates three layers of depth.

Texture, pattern and repetition

Photographers use texture to add depth and dimension to their photos. The texture in this photo is the rough wood in contrast to the softer, smoother looking mold dots on its surface. Everything that obstructs the woods surface adds a dimension to the photo that is hard to describe but pleasant to look at.

Lines and Contrast
Lines and Contrast

Photographers use lines in their photos to guide the viewer throughout it to their subject. I used lines through this entire photo to create an almost illusory look that could get the viewer lost in the photo.

Shape, pattern and repetition

Photographers use pattern and repetition to create a visual rhythm and structure to their photos. The pattern and repetition in this photo resides in the leaf. The subject has three main almost triangular shapes all very resembling of each other. The subject also has lines cascading down the entirety of its shape making the subject even more symmetrical.
